Common Earth Leadership Training

Develop your leadership to help build the post-carbon caring society. 

 

Common Earth has a unique perspective on leadership and the skills that are required to do assume this role effectively.

 

We need to grow the community of people who are engaged in helping to create the post-carbon caring society. Whether you are excited about starting a Kith (local groups working to build the new society) or to facilitate our courses, we invite alumni of the Common Earth Course to deepen their leadership skills through the development of techniques that will empower them to take on exciting new roles.

Common Earth Leadership Training
  • Sessions per week: 2
  • Duration: 3 weeks
  • Session length: 2 hours
  • Format: Online – Live & Interactive sessions
  • Group size: Up to 10 people
  • Time Commitment: 8 hours per week (2 live sessions of 2 hours each plus 2 hours of prework per session).
  • Investment: This program is a gift from Common Earth to participants.

Course Elements

The course is intended to support those who would like to participate in leading a Common Earth Kith as our best response to the impossibility of continuing on our current trajectory. Additional to the course content, you will have access to a variety of Common Earth resources and support.

Kith meetings are dynamic meetings where leaders apply successful facilitation techniques to support the group. By developing workshop techniques, leaders will foster a creative and caring environment when working on solutions for their local communities.

Focused Conversation

Focused Conversation

The ORID conversation framework (Objective, Reflective, Interpretive and Decisional) helps kith members discuss challenging topics in a facilitated discussion. By adequately learning this technique, leaders can help the group to reach wiser decisions.

Recruitment and onboarding

To grow our community, it’s imperative that we are able to reach more people. We will explore together ways in which we can reach out to our own networks to invite people to take the course or join a kith.

Course Requirements

  • Successfully completion of either Module 2 of Common Earth Insights, Common Earth Insights (after September 2024, or the Reframing Climate Change courses.
  • Have a willingness to start and lead a kith in their local community.
  • The course is designed to be viewed on a computer. For the best experience, we highly recommend that participants access the course using a computer rather than a mobile device.

Once your spot has been confirmed, we ask that you honour the commitment to maximize both your own experience and that of the group.
