Participant Code of Conduct
The Common Earth learning experience is built upon trust, mutual respect, curiosity, and shared responsibility. Our programmes invite participants into conversations about complex global challenges and personal perspectives, making the quality of our community essential to everyone’s learning.
By joining a Common Earth programme, participants agree to uphold the following expectations.
Our Community Expectations
Participants are expected to:
- Treat fellow participants, facilitators, staff, and partners with kindness, dignity, and respect.
- Participate fully and authentically as themselves.
- Arrive on time and remain engaged throughout scheduled sessions.
- Attend at least 80% of all live sessions. Consistent attendance is essential to both individual learning and the development of a safe, trusting, and connected community. Participants who do not meet this requirement will not receive a course certificate and may be invited to complete the programme in a future cohort.
- Come prepared for each session, including completing any assigned prework.
- Participate actively while respecting the boundaries, experiences, and contributions of others.
- Engage with curiosity and openness, practising unconditional positive regard by approaching others with empathy, assuming good intent, and recognising each person’s inherent worth, even during disagreement.
- Communicate honestly and respectfully in both spoken and written interactions.
- Respect the confidentiality of personal stories and experiences shared within the learning community unless explicit permission has been given to share them.
- Use Common Earth’s digital learning platforms responsibly and respectfully.
- Participate personally in all sessions. AI agents, automated participants, or proxy attendance must not be used in place of genuine personal participation.
Unacceptable Behaviour
The following behaviours are inconsistent with our community values and may result in intervention or removal from the programme:
- Harassment, bullying, intimidation, discrimination, or threatening behaviour.
- Deliberately disrupting sessions or preventing others from participating.
- Recording, distributing, or sharing programme content or participant contributions without permission.
- Misusing programme communication channels or digital platforms.
- Participating through AI bots, automated agents, or any non-human representation.
- Attending or engaging in programme activities in a state that impairs judgment, communication, or the ability to participate meaningfully and respectfully.
- Any behaviour that compromises the safety, wellbeing, dignity, or learning experience of others.
- Repeated failure to comply with programme expectations after reasonable requests from facilitators.
Responding to Concerns
When concerns arise, our first approach is to seek understanding through respectful dialogue wherever appropriate.
Depending on the nature and seriousness of the situation, Common Earth may:
- Provide informal coaching or guidance.
- Issue a verbal or written warning.
- Develop a behavioural agreement with the participant.
- Restrict participation in specific sessions or activities.
- Remove a participant from the programme where serious misconduct or safety concerns make this necessary.
These actions are intended to protect the integrity of the learning environment and the wellbeing of the wider community.
Our goal is always to foster a learning environment where every participant feels respected, challenged, supported, and able to contribute meaningfully.
